What does a day look like for you as Field Engineering Coordinators?
Each day is unique, shaped by the various projects we have underway. Generally, our day involves a mix of tasks that keep us engaged and on our toes. We answer all inquiries related to new service extensions whether by phone, email or assisting members in the office. Our responsibilities include processing applications for new services, modifications, solar installations, and pole attachments. We help monitor each project from start to finish, making sure all requirements are met along the way. In many cases that includes drafting easements, creating invoices and collecting payments, as well as ensuring meter bases have electrical permits and have passed an electrical inspection before our operations department sends a line crew to the site.
We also work closely with our Project Engineering Technicians, providing administrative support so they can focus on their work in the field. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities.
What’s the biggest challenge in your job?
The biggest challenge is juggling multiple responsibilities simultaneously. However, this is both challenging and rewarding, as it keeps us engaged and ensures that no two days are the same, especially during the busy building season. We also work to give our full attention to every member while balancing the workload and prioritizing other tasks.
What’s something you wish more members knew?
The process of extending service involves multiple individuals and many steps that need to be completed before a crew can be dispatched to perform the work. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes, and we coordinate between members and other KEC staff to make the process as smooth as possible and keep projects moving forward. What’s unique about your roles?
Our roles are always evolving, as we constantly work to streamline processes and make them more efficient. We also dive into new projects, which keeps our work dynamic and engaging. Additionally, we get to work with many different departments, which helps us expand our knowledge of the new service process as a whole.

How has the growth in the area affected your roles?
The growth in the area has impacted our roles as Field Engineering Coordinators since we work with many new members moving to the area. However this growth required us to collaborate more closely as a team, enhancing our efficiency and allowing us to streamline processes to keep up with it. As a result, we are better equipped to serve our members and meet their needs effectively.
What’s your favorite thing about our area?
Our favorite thing about this area is its breathtaking beauty and the endless outdoor activities it offers. The lakes, mountains, and woods are truly stunning, providing a picturesque backdrop for our daily lives. Regardless of the season, there’s always something to do. In the winter, we enjoy snowboarding at different mountains, while the summer is perfect for spending time on the rivers and lakes.
Idaho is full of friendly faces and has a charming small-town feel that many of us were drawn to. The variety of outdoor activities such as exploring the mountains, picking huckleberries and visiting nearby destinations like Spokane or Sandpoint ensures that no matter what you’re in the mood for, it’s always within reach.
