The biggest challenge of my job currently is material procurement. Since the pandemic, material and equipment cost increases have created extended timelines and inflated costs which historically have not been an issue. Although there appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel, lead times on conductors, transformers, and specialized equipment can be 12 to 24 months once an order is placed. Proper planning and coordination for major projects is critical.
