Operation Round Up® Grants Awarded to Our Community
Operation Round Up® is supported by KEC members who voluntarily “round up” their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar to help our neighbors in need. The extra pennies go into the Kootenai Electric Trust fund which distributes grants to worthy causes in our community. In August 2026, the Trust Board awarded grants to the following organizations:
- $2,500 to Turkeys & More to help provide Thanksgiving meals for nearly 2,000 low-income families in our community.
- $2,500 to PB&J Haydeners to purchase fresh produce for those who need it most in North Idaho.
- $2,500 to Growing the STEM to expand their afterschool programs for low-income students. Learn more about this organization below.
- $2,500 to Special Olympics Idaho for the Train 4 Life Program in North Idaho. This fitness program is designed for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- $2,500 to the Coeur d’Alene Youth Orchestra to provide scholarships for low-income students.
Are You ‘Rounding Up’ Your KEC Bill?
If not, we need your help! Start “rounding up” your bill. Members who choose not to contribute to Operation Round Up or who would like to begin contributing may simply opt out or opt-in on their bill or contact KEC by phone, letter, or email.
Grant Spotlight: growing the stem
Growing the STEM began in 2017 and supports math and science enrichment programs for local students. Growing the STEM focuses on developing youth leaders and increasing participation in STEM among underrepresented groups.
The organization uses a unique “kids helping kids” model, where high school students mentor elementary students through engaging, hands-on STEM activities. In partnership with the Coeur d’Alene School District, these after-school programs are offered directly at local elementary schools and are completely free for families, eliminating financial barriers to participation.
Growing the STEM is committed to creating an inclusive environment where students of all backgrounds can explore STEM, build confidence, develop leadership skills and discover a lifelong passion for learning through fun, supportive and meaningful experiences.
