This option is designed for members who value simplicity and predictability. Electricity is billed with no time of day or demand considerations. It’s a good fit for members who prefer a straightforward bill without actively managing usage patterns.
Kootenai Electric Cooperative (KEC) is now offering residential and general service members a choice of rate options. Details about the residential rate options are below. Please note that all existing members will remain on their current rate unless they contact us to make a change.
How to Change Your Rate Selection
Members who wish to switch rate options need to submit a request using either the rate selection form at the bottom of this page or by calling 208.765.1200.
Requests are reflected on the billing statement for the following month. For example, requests submitted by May 31, 2026, will appear on the June 2026 billing statement. Members may change their rate selection once every three months. Rate changes are not retroactive, and refunds will not be issued for past electric use.
Rate Options for Residential and General Service
Residential Rate Options
Residential members now have three rate options, allowing you to choose what best fits your household needs and lifestyle. Learn more about each option below.
The Peak Use rate is designed for members who can be flexible with when and how they use electricity. By shifting high energy activities to non peak hours, members may find opportunities to manage costs. This rate works best for those interested in actively monitoring and adjusting their energy use. Peak Use Rates are subject to a monthly Peak Use (kW) Charge which is calculated using the highest or “peak” amount of electricity, measured in kW, that a member uses during a single hour within the peak hours of 6 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. over the billing period. For more information visit our Peak Use Charge page.
